Unlike liposuction, the tummy tuck (“abdominoplasty”) procedure reduces both skin and excess fat from the abdominal area and tightens the underlying muscles to decrease a protruding abdomen. An incision is made horizontally in the area below the navel and above the pubic bone. This will result in a scar that can typically be hidden beneath a bikini. The length of the incision will be determined by the amount of skin and fat that needs to be reduced. A second incision around the navel may be necessary to reduce skin from the upper abdomen.
