Breast Implant Removal
Why do
Women Choose
Implant Removal?
…..
There are many reasons women choose to have their breast implants removed — and every decision is deeply personal. For some, it’s about physical comfort or lifestyle changes. For others, it’s a shift in aesthetic preferences or the desire to return to their natural shape.
Common reasons women choose implant removal include:
- Feeling that implants no longer fit their lifestyle or body image
- Experiencing discomfort, weight, or tightness in the chest
- Concern about complications like capsular contracture, rupture, or rippling
- Suspected symptoms of breast implant illness (BII)
- Desire to remove implants after years of wear or aging
- Planning a return to a natural chest shape or preparing for a different procedure
What to Expect (Procedure Overview)
At Selarom, every implant removal is tailored to your goals, anatomy, and medical history. We’ll guide you through the process with clarity and care — whether you’re seeking a simple removal or removal with aesthetic reshaping.
Consultation & Planning
Your consultation includes a full review of your implant history, current concerns, and goals. Dr. Schmelzer will assess your tissue, skin quality, and chest anatomy, then explain your options — including whether a lift or reshaping is recommended for optimal results after removal.
Surgery Day
Implant removal surgery is performed under general anesthesia in our fully accredited surgical suite. Whenever possible, we use your existing incision lines to minimize additional scarring. Depending on your case, the procedure may involve removing just the implants, or removing the capsule as well (en bloc or total capsulectomy). A breast lift may also be performed at the same time for a more youthful contour.
Recovery
Most patients return home the same day with detailed aftercare instructions. Swelling, tightness, or soreness are common in the first few days. Most women resume light activity in about a week, with full recovery typically achieved in 4–6 weeks.
Your Safety, Always
We make sure you’re a good candidate for implant removal and that your chosen approach supports both your health and long-term wellness. You’ll be fully informed of the risks, benefits, and expected outcomes every step of the way.
Removal Techniques / Customization Options
Your needs after implant removal are unique — and your surgical plan should reflect that. At Selarom, we offer a range of techniques to help ensure a natural, smooth result post-explant, whether or not you choose additional reshaping.
Removal Options We Offer:
- Standard implant removal – Implants are removed through existing incisions
- Total capsulectomy – Both implant and surrounding capsule are removed
- En bloc removal – Implant and capsule are removed in one piece (if medically appropriate)
- Explant with breast lift – Removes implants and reshapes tissue for a lifted, natural chest
Personalized Choices Include:
- With or without lift – Based on your skin elasticity, breast size, and goals
- Flat vs. reshaped – You may prefer a natural chest or choose reshaping for contour
- Scar placement – Whenever possible, we reuse your existing incisions to reduce visible scarring
Tailored Techniques
In some cases, we may recommend combining your implant removal with a breast lift to restore a more youthful contour or address skin laxity. We also take care to minimize additional scarring by using your original incision lines whenever possible.
Dr. Schmelzer will walk you through all your options, answer your questions with honesty and care, and create a personalized surgical plan that helps you feel confident in every decision.
