Lower Body Lift
The lower body lift is typically performed on patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with excess skin in the hips, buttocks, and thigh areas. Excess fat may also be reduced with the aid of liposuction, but the lower body lift procedure should not be viewed as a procedure solely for fat reduction.
This procedure tightens loose, sagging skin in the following areas:
- Buttocks
- Posterior thighs
- Anterior thighs
- Outer thighs
- Hips
The lower body lift involves incisions which pass from the patient’s back around the outside of the hips to the front of the thighs. The incisions will leave scars, but they are typically hidden beneath clothing or within the natural folds of the body. The surgery begins with the patient on their stomach and requires repositioning during surgery to address the front of the lower body. The loose skin and underlying fat tissue are reduced, and layered suture techniques are used to close the incisions. Swelling is controlled by compression garments after surgery and can take several weeks to subside.
